Optometrist
Dr. Masherrill Fant Koonce is a native of Thomasville, NC. She completed her undergraduate studies at UNC Charlotte, her Master’s in Public Health at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and her Doctorate of Optometry at University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry.
In 1993, Dr. Koonce became the first African American woman to practice optometry in Rock Hill, South Carolina. In 2004, Dr. Koonce started Charlotte Optometric Clinic, which she continues to operate today. Dr. Koonce loves taking care of visual needs for patients of all ages. Dr. Koonce specializes in difficult to fit contact lens patients, and she serves her community each year by providing free eye exams and eyeglasses to patients in need.
Dr. Koonce’s current membership activities include American Optometric Association, National Optometric Association, NC Optometric Society and Union County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She loves spending time with her family, traveling and reading.

Dr. Donnie R. Koonce is a native Charlottean. You may have seen him around the office working as an optometric technician during high school and college. Dr. Koonce completed his undergraduate studies at UNC Charlotte, his Master’s in Science at Wake Forest University, and most recently graduated with honors from the Southern College of Optometry in 2024. Dr. Koonce is currently undergoing residency training in Ocular Disease while serving our veterans at the Salisbury VA.
Dr. Donnie Koonce is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society, the National Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Optometry. In his free time, Dr. Koonce enjoys going to the beach, exploring new areas of Charlotte and cooking.
